Renewal of work permit and residence permit in case of passport expiry

Category: Procedures

Based on the letter of the Minister of Interior, and the provisions of Article (20) of the instructions for private offices for recruiting non-Jordanian domestic workers issued in 2020, the following applies:

First:

If there is no diplomatic representation of the worker’s country in Jordan (i.e., no embassy in Jordan, and a consulate is not considered diplomatic representation for this purpose), the homeowner is allowed to complete the procedures for renewing or transferring the domestic worker’s work permit regardless of the validity or expiry of the passport, for one time only, provided that the passport has not been expired for more than one year.

If the passport has been expired for more than one year, or if this is the third renewal, the Ministry of Interior must be visited to submit a request, after which an official letter is issued to the labor directorates to complete the procedures for renewing the work permit and annual residence card.

This procedure applies to the following nationalities:

Ethiopian
Ugandan
Ghanaian
Nepali

Second:

If there is diplomatic representation of the worker’s country in Jordan (i.e., there is an embassy in Jordan), then the passport must be extended or renewed through the worker’s country’s embassy so that the sponsor can renew the work permit and residence permit, complete sponsorship transfer procedures, or arrange the worker’s return to her country.

This procedure applies to the following nationalities:

Filipino
Sri Lankan
Bangladeshi
